What's actually going on
MYOB builds the report, then hands it to Excel behind the scenes. If either side can't see the other, nothing happens — no error, because neither program noticed a failure. Three documented causes cover almost every case, and none of them mean the report is lost.
Check what Excel you're actually running
Open Excel. Go to File, then Account, then About Excel. That window tells you the version number and whether it says 32-bit or 64-bit.
- MYOB only exports to Excel 2010 or later (MYOB: Exporting reports).
- MYOB only exports to a desktop copy of Excel, not the browser version some Microsoft 365 plans open by default. If "Excel" for you means a tab at office.com, that's the fault line (MYOB: Exporting reports).
- MYOB AccountRight is 32-bit software. If your Excel says 64-bit — now the default on most new Office installs — the export has nowhere to land (MYOB Community: Windows 10 64-bit not able to export to Excel).
If it's the 32-bit and 64-bit mismatch
This is the most reported cause, and the fix is bigger than a click: it means installing the 32-bit build of Office instead of the 64-bit one. That's worth doing with whoever manages your Microsoft 365 subscription. Microsoft's own install page lets you choose 32-bit or 64-bit before the download starts (Microsoft: choosing 32-bit or 64-bit Office). Your documents and email stay in OneDrive or on your PC either way — only the Office program itself changes.
If the Excel version checks out and it still does nothing
MYOB builds each exported report from its own template files, kept in a folder under your Documents — AccountRight\Current\Reports\Spreadsheet. If those go missing or get damaged, reinstalling AccountRight restores the default set (MYOB: Microsoft Excel templates). Your company file lives separately and isn't touched by reinstalling the program.
If you're on a shared computer or Remote Desktop
Excel's own security settings can block the older template format MYOB relies on, with an error naming "Excel 97-2003 Workbooks and Templates" as blocked by file block settings (MYOB Community: file block settings blocking the Excel 97-2003 template format). If you don't manage security settings on that machine yourself, that's a question for whoever does — the setting sits in Excel's Trust Center, under File Block Settings.
If none of this fixes it
At that point it's genuinely worth MYOB's own support queue rather than more guessing — they can see your version and build number, which narrows it faster than any general guide can.
Once it's exporting again
MYOB's Excel export was built for printing a report, not for feeding a pivot table. Expect merged header cells, totals sitting inside data rows, and dates stored as text — normal side effects of a print layout, not a new fault.
